The quarterback carousel keeps going around and around and this time Brian Hoyer will take a spin as the newest starting signal-caller for the Arizona Cardinals.

Head Coach Ken Whisenhunt confirmed that Hoyer will be the Cardinals' fourth starting quarterback this season when they face the San Francisco 49ers in their regular-season finale on Sunday in San Francisco.

A former backup to Tom Brady with New England, Hoyer was signed off waivers earlier this month. He follows Kevin Kolb, John Skelton and Ryan Lindley as quarterbacks this season for the Red Birds.

Hoyer replaced Lindley in the third quarter of Arizona's 28-13 setback to the Bears last Sunday and completed 11 of 19 passes for 105 yards and an interception. Prior to that, Hoyer hadn't thrown a pass in an NFL game since his one attempt with the Patriots during the 2011 season. He'll be facing a 49ers contingent that ranks second in the league in overall defense, allowing just 296.5 yards per game.

Did you know?

* In their 25 seasons in Arizona since moving from St. Louis, the Cardinals have had 10 or more losses in a season 15 times, including this season.

* Wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald has not had a touchdown reception in his last six games. That's the longest streak of his stellar career. His previous longest streak was five games in 2010.
