The curtain finally dropped on the Arizona Cardinals' disappointing season Sunday with a 27-13 setback to NFC West rival San Francisco at Candlestick Park.
Wide receiver Michael Crabtree caught two touchdown passes, giving him four against Arizona this season, to lead the 49ers to victory and the NFC West crown. The Niners (11-4-1) have the number two seed in the NFC playoffs and a first round bye.
The Cardinals concluded their very frustrating campaign – one that saw them start the season with four straight wins – at 5-11 and a last place divisional finish.
Despite the loss, rookie wide receiver Michael Floyd had a breakout game for the Red Birds with eight receptions for 166 yards and a touchdown.
Quarterback Brian Hoyer made his first NFL start for the Cardinals and completed 19 of 34 passes for 225 yards with one touchdown (a 37-yard strike to Floyd) and one interception, He was sacked twice. It was the first TD pass by an Arizona signal-caller in the last seven games.
Crabtree had a season-high 172 receiving yards. His superb effort was the best by a Niners receiver since Terrell Owens' 166-yard performance on Nov. 25, 2002, against the Philadelphia Eagles.
San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick threw for a career-high 276 yards and the two touchdown passes to Crabtree.
Frank Gore led the Niners rushing attack with 68 yards and a touchdown. San Francisco outgained Arizona, 407-262.
William Powell paced the Cardinals ground game with 52 yards on 14 carries.
