Now that it appears that Andy Reid is likely to become the new head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, the Arizona Cardinals have asked for and been given permission to speak to Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley as they continue to search for a new head coach.
Haley was the offensive coordinator with the Red Birds in 2007 and 2008 under recently fired head coach Ken Whisenhunt. This was his first season as OC with the Steel Curtain. He left Arizona to become Kansas City's head coach in 2009 and was fired following the 2011 campaign.
The Cardinals were hoping to interview Reid this week but he canceled visits to Arizona and San Diego because he is reportedly very close to landing the Chiefs' head coaching position.
Arizona is expected to interview Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy on Saturday in Denver. The Broncos have a first round bye in the AFC playoffs this week and the window to talk to McCoy is tight.
The Cardinals may be interested in interviewing college coaches as well, including Chip Kelly of Oregon. Kelly's squad defeated Kansas State last night in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, 35-17. The Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills are expected to interview Kelly as well.
