There is a new sheriff in town and his name is Bruce Arians.
You know him better as the new head coach of the Arizona Cardinals. At 60 years of age, Arians finally landed a head coaching job in the NFL and he's determined to make the most of it.
Arians was introduced as the Red Birds' new mentor on Friday afternoon and he knows there is a lot of work to be done. After all, Arizona finished dead last in the NFC West last season with a dismal 5-11 record. They lost nine straight games at one point, their longest losing streak since 1944.
There is a lot of work to be done in the desert. Arians appears to be more than ready for the challenge that lies ahead.
The former Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator is expecting to call the team's offensive plays but will bring in an offensive coordinator as soon as possible. Arians explained to Yahoo Sports that he is looking to build a team that is "disciplined, fast and physical – accountable, no excuses.''
Arians did a fantastic job filling in for Chuck Pagano as interim coach in 2012 – guiding the Colts to a 9-3 ledger while Pagano battled leukemia. He will be bringing a no nonsense approach to the desert and his players will know exactly where he's coming from.
''I'm a straight shooter,'' Arians told Yahoo Sports. ''I don't come home with any bullets left in the gun. I think players respect honest and discipline, and we're going to work hard. They're going to be accountable, not to me, to each other. It's not my football team. Our players will decide how good they are. It's their football team. If they want to win, we'll win. I'll show them the way. I'm no magic man. I've never tried to be. I'll give them the plan, execute the plan with passion and energy and Cardinals will be Cardinals – disciplined, fast, physical football.''
He's ready and raring to go. Don't let his age fool you – Arians seems full of boundless energy.
''I'm a lifer,'' Arians told Yahoo Sports. ''I embrace this challenge. I can't wait to get started. We're going to have a great coaching staff, and we're going to have a great team.''
That's music to the ears of the Cardinals faithful everywhere.
