Goodwin joined Arians in 2007 when Arians was the offensive coordinator of the Pittsburgh Steelers. They have coached together ever since. Goodwin was the offensive line/quality-coach with the Steelers when they faced the Red Birds in Super Bowl XLIII.

Goodwin started coaching in the NFL in 2004 when he joined the Chicago Bears as an assistant offensive line coach. Goodwin left Chicago after the 2006 campaign to take the the offensive line/quality-control coaching job with Pittsburgh.

The Columbia, SC native is the older brother of San Francisco 49ers All-Pro lineman Jonathan Goodwin. He never played in the NFL but was an offensive lineman for the University of Michigan from 1992-94.
