Daryl Washington is finally heading to the NFL Pro Bowl.
A well deserved honor indeed.
The Arizona Cardinals linebacker is going to Honolulu to join teammate Patrick Peterson on the NFC contingent for this Sunday's showcase game. Washington replaces San Francisco linebacker NaVarro Bowman. Bowman cannot participate because the 49ers are headed to the Super Bowl in New Orleans to face the Baltimore Ravens.
Washington is the first Cardinals linebacker to make the Pro Bowl since Seth Joyner in 1994 and is coming off a stellar 2012 campaign. The TCU product led the Red Birds in tackles (140, including 110 solo) and sacks (nine). Those nine sacks were the most by an NFL inside linebacker this season. He added two forced fumbles, an interception, a fumble recovery and six passes defensed as well.
It was quite a special year.
Peterson was selected as a rookie to the Pro Bowl in 2011 as a punt returner and as a cornerback this season.
