They were born a generation apart so they might not have the same taste in music or movies. Once thing is certain though – they want the Arizona Cardinals to become a winning franchise for many seasons to come.

They are new General Manager Steve Keim and new head coach Bruce Arians. They hope to form a very dynamic one-two punch that will make the Red Birds a perennial playoff contender.

Their first big mission together is the annual NFL Combine in Indianapolis – where all the prospects who dream some day of playing on Sundays get probed, tested and analyzed from head to toe.

With free agency looming on Mar. 12 and the NFL Draft taking place a little over a month later, there is no time to waste for Keim, Arians and company to try and do whatever they can to make Cardinals fans forget last season's dismal 5-11 campaign.

It starts with the NFL Combine. So far the chemistry among the coaches and the Arizona brain trust couldn't be better.

“I can’t imagine (the relationship) being any better,” Arians told Darren Urban of azcardinals.com. “Working with the scouts and Jason (Licht) and Steve have been outstanding. Seeing the scouts and coaches mix right away, that was one of the things that drew me to Arizona. I felt that relationship with Steve and Jason and (president) Michael (Bidwill) that we would do it together and the successful ones do it that way.”

This is such an important Combine for the Cardinals. They own the seventh overall pick in the draft and can't afford to make a mistake. A first round miscue can set the team back a few years and the Red Birds can't afford any slip-ups as they try and compete in the very tough NFC West.

So far Keim and Arians are off to a good start.

"When you have a common goal in mind and put those egos aside, as long as you have common goals in mind things will go smoothly,” Keim told Urban. “It doesn’t mean you won’t have disagreements. Already in the (free agent) meetings there have been some disagreements. At the same time, we made a pact through the interview process, the hiring process that personnel decisions, once we will put a guy on the board, it was a Cardinal grade. That’s one mindset, one common goal and we will stick with that Cardinal grade.”

There's a good vibe in the desert these days – but still a lot of work to be done.
