Could be. The former USC quarterback had a somewhat disappointing senior season for the Trojans but reportedly has left the Red Birds very impressed after the interview process at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis.
"It's an annual occurrence at the combine, said Daniel Jeremiah of nfl.com. "This week in Indy always spawns several rumors. One such rumor has the Cardinals being very interested in Barkley. I've been told this exact same piece of information from a few different sources. According to one source, the Cardinals were extremely impressed with the USC quarterback during his interview this week."
Everyone knows the Cardinals need a quarterback of the future. Whether Barkley will be that signal-caller remains to be seen. He did not throw at the Combine due to the Grade 3 shoulder separation he suffered last season. Scouts have some concerns about his arm strength.
"Look at the tape. Watch the tape," Barkley said via sbnation.com. "I'm not going to go through certain throws, but you can watch the tape where I've made throws in tight windows. I can make every NFL throw that you need. So I would disagree."
Barkley is planning to throw at USC's Pro Day on Mar. 27 and he needs to impress at that time. His draft stock has dropped in the past year. He tossed 36 touchdown passes in 2012 but also threw 15 interceptions, a high figure for sure. Those 15 picks were a career-high for him with the Trojans, one more than he had as a freshman in 2009.
He is very talented though.
Once thing seems certain now – Barkley is on Arizona's radar. We'll see how everything proceeds from here.
